Not everyone deserves a second chance.
Disgraced Baylor basketball coach Dave Bliss was hired Monday by Southwestern Christian University, according to the Oklahoman. In 2003, Bliss was guilty of some extreme violations at Baylor, mainly paying players and covering marijuana use by members of his team.
One of the players he paid – Patrick Dennehy – was shot dead by teammate Carlton Dotson after the two had an argument. Dennehy's girlfriend told investigators about Bliss' payments and the coach tried to concoct a story painting Dennehy as a drug dealer to explain how he was able to pay for tuition. An assistant coach recorded Bliss' orders, eventually forcing Bliss to come clean.

Bliss was dismissed in 2003, and in 2005 the NCAA punished him with a 10-year show-cause order for his actions. Fast forward 10 years and the 72-year-old Bliss is back in the game, painting himself as reformed.
"I don't think for a minute any of you would do something as foolish as what I did, but you need to understand something: I didn't think I would, either," Bliss writes in a soon-to-be released memoir, "Fall to Grace."
"My obedience to what God can do with my story is truly what drives me nowadays. Although there are parts of my story that I am not proud of, I am grateful for God's faithfulness."
In his time away from the college game, though, Bliss ran afoul of the rules as a high school basketball coach in Texas. In 2007, he was busted for illegally recruiting players at the Allen Academy.
No bother, though, says Southwestern Christian – an NAIA school apparently desperate for hardwood prominence.
"Coach Bliss fits well within our mission and culture and embraces what a Christian-based education is all about," school president Reggies Wenyika told the newspaper.
Bliss coached at Oklahoma, SMU and New Mexico before landing at Baylor.
