PORT ST. LUCIE — Juan Lagares is a close to a new contract with the Mets that would keep him locked up through 2019, a baseball source confirmed Wednesday.

The deal will be a four-year extension on top of his 2015 contract, worth $23 million, according to Yahoo! Sports. The pact reportedly contains a club option for 2020 worth $9.5 million with a $500,000 buyout.

"If they do it I'm going to be happy," Lagares said. "I just want to keeping doing what I'm doing, play hard and win some games."

The new deal would buy out Lagares' arbitration-eligible years and take him through his first season of free agency.

Lagares, 26, won a Gold Glove award in center field last season and is considered a building block for the Mets.

"I am thankful for the opportunity to be in this organization and for the team giving me the opportunity when I was 16 years old in the Dominican," Lagares said. "This is where I want to be."

As it stands, the club is continuing discussions with Lucas Duda about a contract extension that would buy out his arbitration years and at least one season of free agency. Duda indicated he wants any potential deal completed before Opening Day.
