Will Mattingly and Colletti survive Dodgers disappointment?

The Dodgers have blown by the Yankees to reach baseball's highest payroll, and with that status comes heavy expectations.

The Dodgers captured the NL West, but were eliminated in four games by the Cardinals in the NLDS. Neither GM Ned Colletti nor manager Don Mattingly is guaranteed to be back next season as the Dodgers begin the process of assessing the team this offseason.

Both men have their share of critics. Mattingly was on the hot seat after being hired in 2011 until turning the Dodgers around last year, and still the Yankees great receives criticism for head-scratching decisions on the bench such as benching Yasiel Puig in Game 4 against St. Louis.

Colletti is the author of a $230 million payroll that has produced one series win the past two seasons. He's been the team's GM since the 2006 offseason. The team has won five NL West title in nine years, but has not made it past the NLCS.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the team's ownership group thinks highly of Mattingly, who is signed through the 2017 season after agreeing to an extension last year.

"Off the charts," said part-owner Magic Johnson during the last week of the regular season. "His performance has been one of the best. He had to manage all of the egos, and all of the stars."

A report from Fox Sports seems to concur with that thinking:
