Yankees keep Chase Headley with four-year deal

The Yankees are on the verge of finalizing a four-year contract with third baseman Chase Headley for a little bit north of $50 million.

Headley will be slotted in as the regular third baseman, considering the massive mystery surrounding Alex Rodriguez's ability to return and play the field.

He also represents a key holdover for a Yankees team that has lost David Robertson and Brandon McCarthy in free agency.

Headley, 30, hit .262 with six homers and 17 RBIs in 58 games for the Yankees after arriving in a July trade with the Padres.

It is believed Headley had a more lucrative offer from another team available to him in free agency.
